Sabra the Red

King Tyrolane

Sabra was mad the day her father announced that they would leave their safe and happy mountains of Ronadoole. To her it was her home and as a child, cared nothing about big, leathery dragons in a hot, ash-filled land. The mountains were her retreat and fed her the memories of her mother, lost to her at a young age. She cried the entire trip northwest to what her father called their 'new home.'
Seeing her saddened face, Axis kept her busy and excited with the lessons of warfare between times of the hunt and even took her with them, despite his warriors protests. However, she felt betrayed when he said she was not good enough after her training completion by not allowing her to join them against the elvish invaders. Her heart broken Sabra gathered the women together and returned home, eager to spite her father and prove her skills on her own. To seal her conviction she effectively closed their valley's passes to him and their warriors. During the Battle of Grathmordath, Sabra was forced to make a quick decision against the awesome powers of the Bone Beast: attack her father and best him in single combat to prove herself to him or put aside her anger to join her father in slaying the horrible threat. She chose the later and saved his life, thereby |
accomplishing both her goals. The war had softened the hearts of both and she saw that she could be trusted by her father in battle. He showed it further by honored the pact she had created with her father's hated enemy Tyrolane.
The war had truly changed everyone. The Elvish Duke Dauntain had fought with Sabra on numerous occasions and was also impressed by her abilities. Having been smitten by her beauty and as her skills as a warrior, he approached her with the proposal of marriage. This was a true shock to Sabra, considering the differences between the elves and her father's dragon hunters. She accepted, regardless of what she decided her father would say. The wedding was held in the newly located Forest Grove of Lysthorial, which Sabra deemed even more beautiful that her mountain home. Sabra was impressed even more when Axis not only allowed the union to take place with his blessing but he was present to pass her on to her future husband and provide entertainment worthy of a true warrior! As her father created a new tradition in the mountains she looked forward to living out her years in the peace of the forests with her husband; their days of battle replaced by joyful sight seeing and tracking! |
In the early days of Tyrolane's Kingly rule, it was his laziness and pride that caused the growing rift in their marriage and the people began to see it. Rebellion was on his own front door step in his own land and he had refused to see it. Worst of all, their twin boys, both clerics, could see it and it began to separate them as well. Half of the people had separated to follow one twin and the other half to the other. Civil war was imminent; then the Battle of Grathmordath took place. The people were forced to put aside their differences to fight their common enemies.
However, their pent up anger soon caught up with them all. It was this rift between their sons that almost cost them their lives, the land, and the war as their soldiers began to fight against each other instead of the Bone Beast. It almost became too late for Tyrolane to mend the rifts, were it not for his father and discovering the truth of his death. It was Nyrolate's generation-late apology that began to reseal the gaps. Barely in time did Tyrolane acknowledge his wrong doings to his wife and family and beg their forgiveness. |
It was only now did Tyrolane realize that his Queen did everything she commanded him not out of the agreement between the Amazons and him but out of a deeper agreement: love.
It was at that point then was Tyrolane able to reciprocate his feelings for Clair Voy as well. Soon, the people also began to apologize and forgive. With the kingdom newly united they turned all their power towards the Bone Beast. With Tyrolane's entire family of magic and psychic users all pointing their powers in the same direction they were able to deal a critical blow to the monster. Now able to accept his parents, his mother Saeline and his father Nyrolate, plus the important strength of family ties they represented Tyrolane promised to his people a new rule: where he would honor his vows as a husband first and then a King second. This included laboring with them instead of against them. Leaving their twins in charge of the kingdom, he declared his first act as both would be to take his Queen on an extended, and private, honeymoon! |

Axis and his strong hunters of Ronadoole, bored in the safety of their secure retreat of their desert mountains heard of the horrible stories and legends of the Dragon Kartothas. With the exciting thought of a challenging hunt and kill Axis ordered his entire people northwest into the volcanic lands of Asishton. Having already lost his wife to a hunting accident, Axis dared not allow his only child, Sabra the Red, to wander too far from him. In her he saw his remembered images of his dear wife. It was this true love that made him break their treasured tradition of their warfare values being passed only to their men. It was this same true love that kept him from allowing her to join them in repelling the Lysthorial Elves. He did not want to loose his only child, and heir, also.
It broke his heart when she fled from him back to their home mountains of Ronadoole and effectively closed their valley's passes to him. During the Battle of Grathmordath, Axis saw the powers his daughter possessed and was impressed with her prowess and abilities. He was forced to learn to trust in what she could do and learned that no matter what he would never be able to completely protect her. He had to trust her to stand on her own. The harsh times of famine also taught him that no hunt could ever replace what he already had: the great treasure of his family. Humbled, he accepted the role of Queen Clair Voy on King Tyrolane's throne |
throne and acknowledged the truce between their people. Allowed to return to Ronadoole Axis and the Amazon woman again began to live in peace... on separate sides of the valley to honor each other's independence.
He further apologized for the anger he harbored against his father, Nyrolate, for not joining them in the first battle against the Bone Beast. Upon Nyrolate's death, Axis had his throne and castle burned to the ground as a reminder of what his pride had nearly cost them all. He then vowed he would never trust the Knights of Ryothoell ever again. Their individual pride set aside they knew their people could now live together in peace. Axis was further shocked when the Elven Duke Dauntain approached her with the proposal of marriage, despite the differences between the elves and his dragon hunters. To seal the end of the war between their people Axis allowed the union to take place with his blessing. To further celebrate their marriage, the Asishton hunters provided beautiful displays of colored fire in the sky! For the future, the Amazons and Asishotons created a new tradition to remember the Battle of Grathmordath and the example between father, daughter, and their new allies. Their future generations looked forward to their mating seasons, when those who bested their chosen rivals in mock combat were given to each other in marriage! |
